The murder of Michael Ramsey
In the year 1854, amidst the breathtaking landscapes of the Overberg region of South Africa, Herbert Vigne was a man at odds with his world. The black sheep of the Vigne family, he was overshadowed by his brother Henry, a prosperous farmer known for his traditional ways and strict adherence to societal norms. While Henry cultivated crops, Herbert nurtured dreams—dreams of a community where people of all colours, nationalities, and religions could thrive together.
In the 1860s, Herbert married Elizabeth Belshaw – 27 years his junior. They settled on their farm, De Bos, in the village. Within fifty years, a dedicated community of people had built houses, established businesses and smallholdings, opened a school and built two churches in the town. Here they lived together in peace, harmony and religious tolerance.
